The NPFS (National Parent Forum for Scotland) and SPTC (Scottish Parent Teacher Council) regularly publish useful resources. Their latest newsletters are worth a look.
Here's an opportunity for parents to support the school in a direct way on an ad hoc basis.
(from the school website: Banchory Academy are looking for volunteers to help out if and when available with various school events and trips. Please come along top get more information and sign up. Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme enrolment may be required to be a helper. Parent Helpers Enrolment Open Sessions will be held on Tuesday 15th September 13:00-13:55 and Thursday 17th of September 17:00-18:00. In Drama Studio 2).
The use of parent helpers for certain events will free up more staff and lessen the impact on the teaching of pupils not involved in those events.
Our parent council belongs to the Scottish Parent Teacher Council, SPTC, a national umbrella organisation promoting parental involvement in education.
From time to time they send us links to surveys to glean parents’ views about certain topics.
We’ve recently heard from them about two:
- UK (Westminster) government consultation on proposed changes to legislation around industrial action in public services (which would include in schools). (This one is a bit hefty to plough through and the deadline is Sept 9th).
- SPTC survey on IT and parental engagement (deadline Oct 2nd).

Just a reminder that the annual meeting of the Parent Forum is at 7pm on Thursday September 3rd in Drama Room 2. The normal Parent Council meeting will follow the AGM.
