The difficulty of teacher recruitment has been a hot topic at recent Parent Council meetings. It’s a nationwide problem (see TESS this week) but particularly acute here in Aberdeenshire. Maria Walker, Aberdeenshire’s Director of Education, has written to all parent councils to explain what steps Aberdeenshire Council is taking to address this challenge. Click here to read her letter.
Marjorie Temperley, Aberdeenshire Council's Education Support Officer (Parental Involvement), has asked us to publicise a survey on absence reporting:
Dear Parent Council Chairs,
Aberdeenshire Council is currently reviewing the way parents/carers report their child(ren)'s absence from school, with a view to making the process easier and less time consuming for both parents/carers and staff based in school.
Please can we therefore, ask you to take part in our short online survey on reporting school absenteeism. Please click on the following link to take you directly to the online survey:
Points to note:
- Should you have children at more than one school in Aberdeenshire, please can we ask you to complete the survey for all the schools your children attend.
- The survey can be accessed at anytime from now until 2300 on Wednesday 19 February 2014
If you are able, please can you promote the survey to your Parent Forum to ensure we collate as many views as possible.
Thank you for your support in publicising this to your parent forum wherever possible.
The minutes from the December 2013 meeting are now available.
The next meeting will be on Thursday March 6th at 7pm in the school library.
If you have anything that you would like to raise please contact any Parent Council member.
Parent Council meetings are open - any parent/carer is welcome to attend.
(Apologies for not having posted reminders for the December and February meetings. All meeting dates are listed under the Meetings link).
The latest e-newsletter from the National Parent Forum of Scotland is now out: Nov/Dec e-newsletter.
There's a wealth of information in there, but one thing they have particularly asked us to highlight is their ICT in Schools survey. There's a link to the survey from the e-newsletter and they would love it if as many parents as possible could complete it. You'll need to rope your children in to help!
